A Peek Into Kindergarten at The Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford

Our Native American Unit Begins!

boys

Today we began our unit on Native American culture. Throughout the unit we will examine how Native Americans lived, where they lived, what they lived in, what they do for fun, what food they eat, and crafts they did. We will then compare the Native American lifestyle from back when Christopher Columbus first landed, to the Native American Lifestyle of today. Today we began by discussing the different types of homes that Native Americans lived in across the country; Tepee’s, Longhouses, hogans, wigwams, and pueblo dwellings, and looked at pictures of each on the SmartBoard. We started to make our own miniature Tepees today by going outside to gather sticks and then attaching them with yarn to make them stand.
